Patient Access is a UK-based digital service and mobile app allowing patients to connect with local NHS health services, manage GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions, and view medical records online. It provides 24/7 access to services, including, for some, booking pharmacy appointments and accessing health advice. 

Key aspects of Patient Access include:

• Access Methods: Available via the Patient Access website, the iOS app on the Apple App Store, or the Google Play app store.

• GP Services: Users can book appointments, order repeat prescriptions, and view medical records (if enabled by their GP).

• Convenience: Allows for managing health needs outside of GP surgery hours.

• Pharmacy & Advice: Includes features to find local pharmacies, self-refer to NHS services (like talking therapies), and access medical advice.

• Security: Users can sign in using NHS login, or create an account for limited features without linking to a GP. 

How to Register

Registration can be done online, but a registration letter with a Linkage Key and Account ID from your GP surgery is required to access full features like medical records, often requiring photo ID verification.

• GP Control: Your GP practice controls which features are available through Patient Access.

• Safety: Users are advised not to click on login links in emails to avoid phishing, as mentioned in about Patient Access. 

myGP app

The myGP app is a free health management tool that allows you to manage your healthcare directly from your smartphone. While it is still available, many NHS practices are currently transitioning users to the official NHS App for improved long-term support and functionality. 

Key Features of myGP

• Manage Appointments: You can book, view, and cancel GP appointments 24/7 without having to call the surgery.

• Repeat Prescriptions: Order regular medication and choose between collecting it at a pharmacy or getting free home delivery.

• Health Tracking: Set medication reminders, track your weight and blood pressure, and use an AI skin scanner for skin concerns.

• Medical Records: Securely view your health records, including test results and vaccination history, provided your surgery supports this feature.

• Care Network: You can add dependents (like children or elderly relatives) to your "Circle of Care" to manage their appointments using only their mobile number. 

How to Get Started

1. Download: Available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

2. Sign Up: You will need to enter your registered mobile number and date of birth.

3. Verification: The app may use NHS Login to securely verify your identity. 

Transitioning to the NHS App

Some surgeries are phasing out myGP in favour of the NHS App. If you're having trouble with myGP or want to switch, you can: 

• Download the NHS App and log in using the same email and password used for myGP.

• Check with your GP surgery to see which online service they recommend for your specific practice.
